About Me

Hi, my name is Riley Smythanne Browne. I am an 11 year old girl from Largo, Florida.  Last year, in my fifth grade class, I was inspired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathia to help save our planet.  I want to help do it by planting trees. 1000 trees to be exact. One day in class we were doing a packet that talked about Wangari Maathia.  I found it very interesting and on the last page it said to write a letter to the Mayor, well, I thought about it and decided I wanted to actually write a letter to Mayor Gerard so I did.  I told her my idea about the 1000 tree planting project, I also told her about my Nobel Peace Prize winning inspiration Wangari Maathia.  About a month and a half later I got an email from Largo Parks Superintendent Greg Brown.  He said that the Mayor had forwarded my letter on to him and that we needed to talk.  So, now Largo Parks and I are working together to make this dream really happen!!! We are going to do some tree planting and some tree giveaways to get 1000 trees planted in Largo, Florida over the next year!!!  How exciting is that!  Well that tells you a little about me and what I am trying to do to help make Largo and this world a better more beautiful place.  I hope that you will join me in this adventure.  Thank you for visiting my site.

Project

My 1000 tree project is starting off great.  On July 18th at 8:00am we will kick everything off where it all began at Mildred Helms Elementary School where I was a student from kindergarten thru 5th grade.  We will start the project by planting trees at the school that morning. I want to start everything where I was inspired and with the people who helped me to make this all happen like my 5th grade teacher, Miss Susan Russell and my principal, Mrs. Sandra Cowley.  They helped me to write my letter and have both been a great inspiration and support to me.  We will be taking reservations for trees and we will also host two tree giveaway events, one in January and one in July.  Largo residents will be able to choose between several different kinds of trees and reserve one to be picked up on one of the two giveaway dates that we will schedule soon.  I will also be putting together a core group to help me plant for those people who may want a tree but are not able to plant it themselves.  The core group will schedule specific dates to go to people’s homes and plant their tree for them.  Their reservation process will be the same as everyone else except they will need to tell us they need our help with planting. The tree reservation process will be simple. You simply click on the reservation link and submit your reservation to my email at rileys1000trees@gmail.com. Please watch for the reservation link to be up and running very soon

We are currently creating a link where you will be able to reserve your tree. If you are intersested in a tree reservation please email us at rileys1000trees@gmail.com with your name, phone number and address and we will get back to you in the next couple weeks with the reservation form so that you can be sure to get your tree.  Thank you so much!

"Finally I was able to see that if I had a contribution I wanted to make I must do it, despite what others said. That I was ok the way I was. That it was all right to be strong."
